De Stichting ter Promotie van het Traditionele
Schip" (SPTS) is opgericht in 1988 door de heer Sicco van
Albada. Het bestuur bestond verder uit de heer J.J. Both, de heer P.P.
Piersma, de heer T. Fruithof en de heer J.J. Post.
Het eerste evenement welke werd georganiseerd was een meeting in
Frankrijk welke voor de eerste keer werd georganiseerd door de Chasse
Maree in Douarnenez (Bretagne).
Momenteel bestaat het bestuur van de stichting uit de heer H.J.
te Siepe, Thedo fruithof en Piersma.
De stichting heeft tot doel het bevorderen van de belangstelling
voor het traditionele schip in de meest uitgebreide zin van het woord
door o.a. het organiseren en /of bijwonen van evenementen waarbij
traditionele schepen betrokken zijn.

The Foundation for the promotion of the Traditional Ship (SPTS)
was established in 1988 by Mr. Sicco van Albada. The comitte comprised
of Messrs. J.H. Both; P.P. Piersma; T. Fruithof and J.J. Post.
The first event that it organized was a meet in France which
was organized for the first time by the Chasse Maree in Douarnenez
(Bretagne).
At present the management is in the hands of Messrs. H.J. (Jan) te Siepe;
Thedo Fruithof and Piersma.
The objective of the Foundation is the promotion of the interest

among other, organizing and/or participating in events that include

De voorzitter, Jan te Siepe schrijft: "Nu gaan we ervoor om in 2009
weer een weergaloos evenement te maken in New York waar ik werkelijk
hoop met een groot aantal jachten een prachtige traditionele vloot te
kunnen tonen aan de burgers van New York.”
Op de website staat: "In 2009 word herdacht dat
Henry Hudson, een Engelsman in dienst van de VOC om een kortere weg naar
Indië te vinden, de Hudson rivier opvoer en dacht deze kortere weg te
hebben gevonden. De monding van de Hudson rivier werd Nederlands
grondgebied door het te kopen van de lokale indianen, en Nieuw Amsterdam
werd gesticht. (Zie Nota A.)
"Er worden vele cultuurhistorische evenementen
georganiseerd tijdens de eerste week van September in New York, en daar
horen een grootse vloot van Nederlands varend erfgoed bij. De SPTS werd
benaderd om het varende deel van de grote Amerikaanse viering te
organiseren. De SPTS heeft daarvoor in September 2008
(Nota B) een overeenkomst
getekend met de Stichting Henry Hudson 400 om
het transport en varende gedeelte in New York te organiseren.

"Zo hopen we een brede vloot van vele
scheepstypen naar New York te kunnen brengen om 1ste week September 2009
de Amerikanen en de Nederlandse expats een
onvergetelijke vlootschouw te
kunnen brengen.
Het programma ziet er in grote lijnen als volgt
uit. Dagelijks zal er gezeild worden met Amerikaanse gasten voor de
skyline van New York. Er zullen ontvangsten worden georganiseerd en er
zal een zeilwedstrijd worden gehouden rondom het Vrijheidsbeeld. Er zijn
aan de wal talloze evenementen en tentoonstellingen over de relatie
tussen Nederland en USA en de geschiedenis van Nieuw Amsterdam/New York.
Na de feestweek in New York is het de bedoeling om met onze
schepen de Hudson rivier op te zeilen richting Albany. Aan de oevers van
de rivier liggen een tiental historische havenplaatsjes die opgericht
zijn door Nederlandse emigranten in de 17de eeuw. De bewoners zijn zich
erg bewust van hun afkomst, en zijn nu al bezig om ons een warm onthaal
te geven wanneer we met onze vloot van schepen in hun haven afmeren."

The Chairman, Jan te Siepe writes:
"Now we are on
our way to organize an
unparalled event in 2009 in New York where I hope
to show a fleet of a large number of magnificent traditional ships
to the citizens of New York."
On the website it states: "In 2009 will be remembered that Henry
Hudson, an Englishman in the service of the Dutch East Indies Company to
find a way to Dutch East India, sailed up the Hudson river and thought
that he had found a shorter way. The mouth of the Hudson river became
Dutch property by buying it from the local indians and Nieuw Amsterdam
was founded." (See Note A below).
"Many cultural-historical events are organized to take place in
the first week of September in New York and among this belongs the
grandiose fleet
of the Netherlands' seafaring patrimony. SPTS was
approached with the request to organize the on-the-water events of this
large American celebration. Accordingly, SPTS signed in September 2008
(See Note B) an agreement with the Henry
Hudson 400 foundation to organize the
transportation and on-the-water events."

wide ranging of different types of vessels to New York to show American
and Dutch expatriates an unforgettable display
of traditional shallow
draft boats in American waters.
The program in broad terms will look as
follows. Every day we will sail with American guests onboard with the
New York skyline as a backdrop. Many receptions will be organized and
there will be a sail race around the Statue of Liberty. On shore there
will be countless events and exhibitions about the relationship between
the Netherlands and the USA and the history of early Nieuw Amsterdam and
later New York.
It is the intention that after the armada in
New York we will sail with our ships up the Hudson river in the
direction of Albany. Along the shores of this river are about ten
historic inland harbors that were established in the 17th century by
Dutch immigrants. The inhabitants are still aware of their origins and
are already now preparing to heartily welcome when our fleet of ships will
use the moorings in their small harbors."

De haven van New York en de Hudson rivier zijn wel erg groot
vergeleken met havens en rivieren in Nederlands. Om een "onvergetelijke
vlootschouw" als beloofd door DPTS te brengen moet de vloot wel uit heel veel boten bestaan.
Twintig boten zouden niet veel indruk maken 40 zou wel veel attentie
krijgen. Hoe meer er zijn - hoe beter het is.Er is geen
verdere informatie beschikbaar op de SPTS website maar het blijkt dat er
op het ogenblik de eigenaars van ongeveer tien (10) boten van de 140 die
geinteresserd zijn aangegeven
hebben dat ze mee zouden willen doen.
Of er genoeg boten verzamelt kunnen worden in
de korte tijd die nog beschikbaar is blijft een vraagstuk. Vergeleken
met wat de eigenaars van platbodems in Nederland zelf en in Europa over
het algemeen kunnen doen is de uitgave per boot wel erg hoog. HH400
heeft al gezegd dat ze niets bij kunnen dragen en SPTS schrijft dat ze
alles al geprobeert hebben maar geen succes hadden met fondsen werving.
Dat betekend dat eigenaar die mee zouden willen doen aan hun eigen lot
over gelaten worden.
Wij hebben hierover al naar HH400 geschreven
maar apart van een paar zinnen uit Amsterdam hebben wij nog niet een
definitief antwoord van het bestuur in New York ontvangen.
Omdat de kansen er vrij matig uitzien en
deelname in zo'n internationale gebeurtenis een "eens in een leeftijd"
kans is, wereldpubliciteit aan zou trekken en belangrijk is voor
Nederlanders en de Nederlandse gemeenschap in Amerika is het de moeite
waard om onze uiterste best to doen om mee te helpen. Daarvoor hebben
wij deze fondeswerving opgezet.
Mogenlijke deelnemers worden aangeraden om deel
te nemen aan de inlichtings vergaderingen; de website van SPTS te blijven
volgen; en direct met SPTS te spreken als er vragen zijn. Vragen kunnen
ook naar ons gestuurd worden voor onze Q & A sectie. Ingeschreven
stukken kunnen onder eigen of schuilnaam gepubliceerd worden

New York Harbor and the Hudson River are really
quite large when compared with the inland harbors and rivers in the
Netherlands. To make that "unforgettable display" promised by
SPTS, the fleet must consist of a really large number of boats. Twenty boats would make
some
impact but 40 would make a big impression. The more - the merrier.
There is no additional information available on
the SPTS website but it appears that at this moment that owners of about
ten (10) boats of the 140 that have expressed an interest have indicated that they are ready to participate.
Whether a large enough fleet can be assembled
in the short time that is still available remains a question. Compared
with what the owners could do with their boats in Europe, the cost of
taking the average boat to America is fairly high. HH400 has already
announced that it can contribute nothing and SPTS wrote us that they
have tried everything already without success of raising the necessary
funds. This means that the owners that would like to participate are
left to their own resources.
We have written already to HH400 about this, but
apart from a few sentences received in reply from Amsterdam, we have not
received a comprehensive reply from the committee in New York.
The chances of success are fairly small
but because participation in such an international event is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity that would attract publicity around the world; and because
it is important for the Dutch and its expatriate community in the US, it
is worth making a special voluntary effort to try to help. That's why we started
this specialized fundraising effort.
Potential participants are advised to take part
in the Information Dissemination meetings; regularly visit the SPTS
website; and speak directly with the official of SPTS to resolve
outstanding questions. Questions can be send also to us directly for
