Doelstelling
Doel
van
deze website is om de schippers, en bemanningen van de Nederlandse
traditionele ronde- en platbodemjachten te adviseren, die met hun
schip deel willen nemen aan de festiviteiten ter herdenking van het
feit dat 400 jaar geleden Henry Hudson de naar hem genoemde rivier
opvoer. De festiviteiten vinden plaats rondom het eiland Manhattan
waar in 1609 Henry Hudson het land in beslag nam waar in 1625, Nieuw Amsterdam, het huidige New York, gesticht is.
Deze
website
gaat nader in op de reis van Henry Hudson, beschrijft de geplande
festiviteiten en biedt informatie hoe de Nederlandse jachten mee
kunnen doen. Tevens worden ideeën aangedragen om enerzijds de kosten
van deelname te beperken, en anderzijds de gasten uit Nederland ten
volle te laten genieten van de vele mogelijkheden die de kust- en
binnenwateren van de Amerikaanse Oostkust aan de zeiler te bieden
hebben.
Uit
intensief
mailcontact met de
Henry
Hudson 400 Stichting
(HH400) en de
Stichting ter Promotie van het Traditionele Schip
(SPTS) is gebleken, dat fondsenwerving om de transportkosten van de
deelnemende schepen van en naar Amerika terug te brengen, nog weinig
heeft opgeleverd. Deze taak wordt nu aan de deelnemende schippers
zelf overgelaten.

is

doelstelling om de schippers te assisteren bij eventuele
fondsenwerving
De website is in het Nederlands en Engels ten gerieve van de
Nederlandse en Amerikaanse deelnemers en belangstellenden.

Objective
The sole purpose of this website is to assist
the owners, skippers, and crews that hope to be able to bring their
historic traditional Dutch shallow-draft sailboats to
the east coast of the US. Their ambition is to represent their Dutch
heritage in the festivities that are planned to celebrate the 400th
anniversary of the arrival of Henry Hudson in what is now New York
Harbor and
the establishment by him of a Dutch settlement, New Amsterdam, on Manhattan island
in 1609.
This website explains the background of Henry
Hudson's travels; describes the proposed celebrations; the operational
arrangements for these vessels to participate; the cost that might be
involved; and presents suggestions as to how participation could be
enjoyed at a lower
cost. Further it explains opportunities for extended cruising
along the east coast and the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) while they are
in the United
States. After considerable dialogue with
the principal organizers, the
"Henry Hudson 400 Foundation"
(HH400) and the "Foundation for the Promotion
of Traditional Ships" (SPTS), it has become apparent
that these were unable to assist the skippers with fundraising. This means
that potential participants most likely will have to rely solely on their own resources to
raise the substantial amounts required. We have started a fundraising
campaign to assist owners, skippers and crew to meet all or part of the cost
of transportation.
The site is published in both Dutch and English to
ensure that in the Netherlands and the USA people can follow
the discussion.
